Thomas Travisano, “Writing Elizabeth Bishop: A Biographer’s Journey.”

LocationLibrary, Class of '51 Reading Room

Thomas Travisano, President of the Elizabeth Bishop Society, will speak about the 40-year journey across 3 continents that led to his new biography, Love Unknown: The Life and Worlds of Elizabeth Bishop. Travisano will pay special attention to Bishop’s career at Vassar and to the importance for his biographical journey of Bishop’s major trove of papers housed in Vassar’s Archives and Special Collections. As Publisher’s Weekly writes, “Drawing on an extraordinary level of archival access, Travisano (editor of Words in Air: The Complete Correspondence of Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell), a professor emeritus of English at Hartwick College, offers a definitive biography–cum–literary study of Elizabeth Bishop (1911–1979).” A reception will follow. Sponsored by the Library and the English Department.
