Urban Sublime: Recent Acquisitions of Photography at the Loeb

Hoene Hoy Photography Gallery

When: January 15–March 27, 2022

About the Show

What are the costs and consequences of idealizing how humans have tamed, paved over, and urbanized the natural landscape? This exhibition of recent acquisitions of photography brings together works that evoke a shared sense of awe in picturing urban construction and modern industry, asking visitors to see these photographs anew in the context of the climate crisis. Equally alienated and compelling, they picture our infinitely complicated relationship to what we have built. Including works by Harry Callahan, Joe Maloney, Nicholas Nixon, and Michael Kenna, this exhibition considers the costs of picturing the urban sublime.
