Adjunct Instructor in Dance

Cleare Deane, from New Rochelle, New York, began her dance training at Scarsdale Ballet Studio under the direction of Diana White, and was a founding member of the Taylor Teen Ensemble at the Paul Taylor School. Claire graduated Magna Cum Laude from Purchase College, SUNY with a BFA in Dance Performance. She has performed with the Merce Cunningham Trust, and was a part of Isabel Lewis’s immersive dance work occasions and other occurrences at Dia:Beacon. In her solo work, Claire explores humor, narration, Western pedagogical forms and the pop culture canon to connect with audiences.

Claire co-founded A-Y/dancers, a professional modern repertory company based in Beacon, NY, in 2017, and became Artistic Director in 2021. With A-Y, Claire has performed work by Merce Cunningham, José Limón, Doug Varone, and Hannah Garner, and presented a full length premiere by Skyla Schreter featuring dancers of New York City Ballet. A-Y/dancers has been presented by Central Park SummerStage, Judson Memorial Church, the Hudson Eye Festival, as well as regionally across New York and the East Coast.

Claire has appeared as a solo dance artist in performances curated by iHeartDance NYC, Made By Women Festival at Arts on Site in New York City, DUSKLIT Arts Festival in Sugar Loaf, NY, Strongroom Inc. in Newburgh, NY, and the Durang Dance Collective in Lancaster, PA. Claire is on faculty at Ballet Arts Studio in Beacon, NY, and was an adjunct professor of ballet at the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College in Spring 2022.
