Vassar students held a weeklong program of protest against IBM's military contracts with the United States government. Protesting took place at the Spackenkill plant and at other IBM sites in Poughkeepsie.  One specific object of the protest were electronic sensors developed by the company and, according to a note in The Miscellany News, "scattered throughout Indochina" to "relay coded signals to the infiltration center in Thailand.  A pair of IBM's huge '360' computers form the core of this center. They interpret the data, analyse the best means of retaliation and realy strike orders to a squadron of Air Force B-52s."
