LAVA Talk on Actuarial Science feat. Lisa Esposito '16 (Career Chat)

Friday, April 9, 2021

3:00 pm

Main Building Virtual Room 1

The Vassar College Department of Mathematics & Statistics is pleased to present a (virtual) LAVA Talk on Actuarial Science featuring Lisa Esposito '16, Senior Actuarial Analyst at Allied World Reinsurance Company. Actuarial Science deals with evaluating risks and maintaining the economic stability of insurance or financial organisations. Actuarial Studies graduates learn how to use mathematics, statistics, and probability principles to anticipate future events and take preventive measures. Actuaries analyse past data and use that information to determine how much money should be set aside to cover the financial losses which could occur in the future. The job outlook for actuary careers is great. In the US alone, the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects a 20% increase in Actuarial Science jobs by 2028. Many institutions, like insurance firms, banks, and other financial institutions benefit from having an actuary on board.

LAVA (Life After VAssar) is a series of informal conversations with Vassar alums and friends that will introduce math & statistics students to possible opportunities and directions in life after graduation. Co-Sponsor: Vassar College Career Development Office (CDO)
