Alumnae House

African American alums have served on the College’s Board of Trustees, representing the Alumnae and Alumni of Vassar College (AAVC); two—Billie Davis Gaines ’58 and Paula Williams Madison ’74—also have served as Presidents of AAVC (1990–1994 and 2002–2006, respectively). The African American Alumnae/i of Vassar College (AAAVC) was founded in 1984 and was recognized with the 2015 Outstanding Service to Vassar College Award by the AAVC.

Many African Americans have worked as staff members and administrators in the Office of Advancement, currently housed in Alumnae House. African Americans have also been an integral part of the reception, catering, housekeeping, landscaping, and maintenance staffs of the inn since it opened in 1924.
