Klezmer—Get the Jewish BluesLocationAula
Klezmer is the celebratory and soulful music of Jewish Eastern Europe. Ilana Cravitz, one of the world's leading klezmer fiddlers, will illustrate with live music, crackly old recordings, and colorful anecdotes the historical context and the lives and times of the musicians who played this essential party music. There may be dancing.
Cravitz has toured internationally and recorded four CDs with her group, the London Klezmer Quartet, and has taught klezmer to musicians of all ages and abilities, both privately and at venues ranging from folk festivals and community workshops to universities and music colleges. Her book, Klezmer Fiddle—A How-To Guide, is published by Oxford University Press. Cravitz also leads and calls for klezmer dances. She plays the baroque violin and viola da gamba, and is a guest from time to time with ceilidh and country music bands."
