Cross Country Runners Gain New Ground

Late last year, juniors Elizabeth Forbes and Johanna Spangler, pictured, traveled to Waverly, Iowa to compete in the NCAA Division III National Championships for women’s cross country. It was the first time in the history of the program that the Brewers sent two runners to the competition. (Spangler also competed at nationals in 2008 as a freshman.)

While injury and a race restart (due to a field false start) hampered their performances, the Iowa event still capped off a stellar season for the co-captains from Boston, MA and Gettysburg, PA, respectively. This past fall, both received All Liberty, All Seven Sisters, and All Regional honors. And with both women juniors, more great things are likely in store for Vassar during this spring’s track and field season, and especially during this fall’s cross country season, when they return as seniors. – PB
