Art, Music, and Dance Portfolios
If you have well-developed talent or accomplishments in music, art, or dance and you plan to continue it at Vassar, you may submit examples of your work as a supplement to your application.
The arts portfolio is not required and does not act as an audition for any major or department at Vassar. Rather, it provides an opportunity for first-year applicants to add to their application by demonstrating proficiency in art, music, or dance. Submissions will be evaluated by faculty in the relevant discipline, and their evaluations will be shared with the Office of Admission.
Please submit recordings of 2 contrasting pieces, 3 to 5 minutes each. Instrumentalists should submit performances of classical or jazz selections, either solo or accompanied. Vocalists should submit solo classical, musical theater, or jazz selections only. Recordings of yourself in a choir or rock band will not be considered. If you are a composer, please be sure to submit a score and recording of your composition. We also strongly suggest providing a short resume that details your past musical experiences as well as a brief paragraph about the ways you would like to participate in the Music Department at Vassar.
If you would like to submit pieces on different instruments, submit them under the same music portfolio. While Slideroom will not allow you to submit two different portfolios in the same artistic area, you are welcome to submit one portfolio with two different pieces/instruments.
Please submit 10 to 20 photos of your art.
Please submit 1 or 2 brief (3 to 5 minutes) selections from a performance or studio work. You must be clearly identifiable if submitting a group performance.
How to Submit
Arts portfolio materials must be submitted electronically at vassar.slideroom.com. Materials mailed to the Office of Admission will not be accepted for the arts supplement.
If you are submitting the Common Application go to vassar.slideroom.com, click on the program and round in which you are applying, and submit materials through that program. For example, if you are applying in Early Decision I and submitting a dance portfolio, you would click on "Dance: Early Decision I."
If you submitted the Common Application and received a fee waiver, this will automatically apply to Slideroom.
Coalition or QuestBridge Application
If you are submitting the Questbridge or Coalition Application go to vassar.slideroom.com, click on the "Non-Common App” option for the program and round in which you are applying and submit your materials through that program. For example, if you are applying in Early Decision I and submitting a dance portfolio, you would click on "Dance (Non-Common App): Early Decision I."
If you submitted the Questbridge or Coalition application and require a Slideroom fee waiver, please email email@example.com to request one.
