Second Life is an online, 3D virtual world that is free to use (http://www.secondlife.com). You explore and interact with the virtual world through a digital character that you create, called an avatar. In addition you can also communicate with other people using the virtual world, in real time, using both text chat and voice. Everything in Second Life is created by the people that use it—people like you. Vassar College owns a virtual island in Second Life, called "Vassar Island." We are using it to explore the educational, recreational and communication potential of virtual worlds in a liberal arts environment.
Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations or information on accessibility should contact Campus Activities, (845) 437–5370. Without sufficient notice, appropriate space and/or assistance may not be available.
Vassar College is a highly selective, coeducational, independent, residential liberal arts college founded in 1861.
