On July 24th, President Catharine Hill announced that Rachel Kitzinger, the Matthew Vassar Jr. Professor of Greek and Latin Languages and Literature, accepted the position of Dean of Planning and Academic Affairs, effective August 15. In this new position, she will report to the president and will work closely with all of the other members of the senior staff. Among the dean's responsibilities will be long-term planning, oversight of the Office of Admissions, the Office of Financial Aid, the College Libraries, the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, the Department of Athletics and Physical Education, the Grants Office, the Wimpfheimer Nursery School, and the Infant and Toddler Center.
Dean Kitzinger has been a member of the Vassar faculty since 1982. In addition, she has served in numerous administrative capacities, including as chair of the Faculty Policy and Conference Committee, a member of the Faculty Compensation Committee, Acting Associate Dean of the Faculty, Director of Academic Facilities Development, and Director of Teaching Development.
